Hello, Halo, Hola, Bonjour tout le monde!! Any moms here who follow me on Instagram?? if there, I think you know if I was busy for these weeks with my new activity “Knitting” for
celebrating welcoming the autumn, hahaha.
Seem the autumn coming so early today as I felt cold easily, raining almost every day and really windy of course. Personally, I don’t really fans with autumn as I came from the tropical place before and never had this season ever until I move here.
So the cause of that, I had a mind to knit a pull for little K. Just FYI, I never did any Knitting in my life so it will be my masterpiece of my knitting project.
Before I share my 1st knitting project, I think everybody knew what is knitting, if you don’t know let me tell you a little bit about that.
Knitting is an old-ish craft ( I said that as it was famous in the old age and in grandma community that spending their time to knit 😁). For doing this, it really needs the patient and high attention.
Some of the people think this is kind of complicated job and actually yes, it complicates hahaha, it really need high concentration while doing it. if we talked about that it’s a bit like the fishing.
and knitting has a sister that we know as crocheting. So what’s the difference between this two?? Knitting usually using 2 or more needle ( long needle ) and for crocheting just using 1 needle like a hook at the end.
Both of them using any type of yarns and for the needle also have many kinds of size. And usually, when we would like to make some lace, we can do crocheting.
For how to do it, both have their own difficulty, but for me personally, Knitting is easier to understand and doing than the crochet.
Okay now, back to my first project of making the pull for my little K, for doing this I spend around 4 weeks and I didn’t knit all the time and every day, just when I have more time in ME-time.
Why I do the knitting? Actually, I’m on a mission to challenge myself into knit as I never done this and some people said that’s really frustrated (it’s not wrong) so I try to do it with the simple pattern of Pull.
And why the pull? Is it not too difficult for the beginner? My answer, because soon is autumn and the cold day is coming, actually that’s not difficult as in the instructions they just use 2 basic things to start, so it’s quite easy.
Making the pull, I need to knit in 4 parts differents, Body back, Body Front, Sleeves (right and left) and collar/neckline. Each part I could spend around 7-13 days, except the collar I just need a few hours for finishing that.
And actually, I do not really like with the pattern asked for. As in the pattern, there’s no size of my toddler so I need to do some modifications on it.
I know it sounds a bit risky to modify some pattern of knitting with the condition you never know how to knit, but I did it! Even at the beginning, I’m not really confident with what I’ve done. But, like I said it challenging and I loved that!!😄
I have my pattern FREE on the internet, I googled like usually and I found one website named Phildar that I often to look over. it’s a knit and crochet shop, so they sell all the type and size of yarns, any equipment etc.
And they offer some free pattern and you can download it if you already sign up. As I already the member of them, I could find the pattern and download it free.
So here my pull after around 4 weeks I try to make finish it.
Psstt, honestly this pull not really perfect as I have done some mistake on it but it’s not a big mistake also,😥😥
And what do you think about that? I’m really proud with that as a beginner and I never thought if I could do that and now it’s finished even not really perfect :).
By the way, for any moms who want to do the same, I will share the step by step down here for size 2-3 years toddler.
What you need:
- 2 ball of yarn for size 4-4,5 I bought mine on Hema.com
- ring markers
- Knit Needles size 4-4,5
Step by step:
For the back
- Casting on 58 stitches and knit it with k2,p2 rib until 5 cm.
- Continue with garter stitch for 17cm long and put your marking ring.
- Start to decrease some stitch to form the armhole. Cast off stitch 1×4 stitches in every 2 rows, 1×4 stitches, and 1×5 stitches. Do this on the 2 side ( begin and ending the stitch/ left and right)
- Continue cast on with the garter stitch for 11 cm and for shaping the neckline casting off 14 stitches in the middle in every 2 rows with 2×1 stitch. And cast on for 2 cm.
For the front:
All are the same steps like the back just a bit different when we do the for the neckline.
- After forming the armhole, casting on with the garter stitch for 3 cm and cast off 12 stitches in the middle and,
- continue to cast off in every 6 rows 3 x 1 stitch and after casting on until the same size with the back pattern.
For the neck or collar:
- Casting on 10 stitches with the garter stitch for 35 cm.
For the sleeves:
- Casting on 34 stitches with k2,p2 rib for 5 cm and continue with garter stitch.
- The second row increase 2 stitches and it will be 36 stitches and after the increase in every 20 rows 2 x 1 stitch in every side (left and right) and it will be finished with 40 stitches and continue to cast on until 23 cm.
For the other side of sleeves, you do the same instruction like above.
After all is finish time to gather it all. Start with sewing the body front and back in the shoulder sections. After gathering each sleeve into the body in the armhole section.
And then, continue to sew on side of the arm and body and the last work is the collar, sew the collar into the neckline and finish, don’t forget to sew them from the back side, so it will give the nice result.
As the original pattern is in French and I do not really know the word in English so I hope you all can understand and wish my instruction will be easy to follow.
